Kindle V Nook
Which Is Better?
E-Readers are one of the the fastest growing electronics products in recent industry history and the kindle v nook is among the top 2. It is an industry that will continue to run with the existing technology and the technology is being developed regularly. E-Readers will see lots of new models and upgrades in coming years and advances will occur rapidly. The consumer will barely be able to keep pace with the newest and greatest in e-reading devices.
In the battle of the e-book Reader war the top two entries are Kindle v Nook. There are other e-book reader’s jumping into the huge market and making progress with advanced technology and acquiring e-book distribution rights, but for now the focus is on Kindle v Nook.
While both started with similar capabilities both have experienced upgrades to improve the look, as well as the uses of the device. Initial reviews highlighted the pros and cons of the e readers and it seemed that there were more problems that needed attention. Being the top runner, the nook and kindle designers wasted little time addressing those issues as well as improving the already considered good things both readers utilized.
As technology advances and new tech is developed the e-Readers will become more sophisticated and user friendly. They will decrease in size while increasing in capabilities. The text will become even more vivid allowing for a smaller screen making the devices more compact and lighter in weight. The competition will increase as more designers will enter into the e-Reader market and the war will continue between the kindle v nook. For now, let’s look at a comparison between the two.

Kindle V Nook: Do You Need WI-Fi Or WI-Fi & 3G?
WI-FI is a great choice if you already have a high-speed internet connection and wireless router set up in your home. 3G enables you to download books anytime, anywhere, while on the go. If you do not have WI-Fi set up in your home then the 3G may be a better option.
3G + WI-Fi is the easiest option because there is no wireless setup—you are ready to shop, purchase, and read right out of the box. Built-in Free 3G uses the same wireless signals that cell phones use with no charge to you. The added convenience of 3G enables you to download books anytime, anywhere, while on the go—without having to find Wi-Fi hot spots. With wireless coverage in over 100 countries 3G is a great option for travelers.
Interface and Display Type
The Nook interface is more high tech than the easier to use Kindle. The Kindle is operated by buttons and a simple 5 way controller and uses a keyboard. A Nook has a touch screen, now in color, which allows the reader to select books, find pages and search the book store, and uses a virtual keyboard. The keyboard allow it to take notes and highlight passages.
Kindle v Nook each use E-Ink technology which is a screen that reads like a paper page. Nook has incorporated Pearl Technology which is the most recent of the E Ink technologies. The Kindle utilizes a larger resolution than the Nook making the text much more easy to read.
Screen size is pretty close for the Kindle v Nook. The kindle has a diagonal screen width of 6 inches while the Nook sports a diagonal screen width of 7 inches.
Storage and Battery Life
When deciding the kindle v nook competition, battery life and storage is a major factor. At present, the Kindle battery lasts about 30 days with the Wi-Fi turned off and 10 days with the Wi-Fi turned on. The Nook holds about 10 days of battery life with the Wi-Fi turned off and 4 days with the Wi-Fi turned on. However the Nook battery can be replaced while the Kindle battery has to be replaced by Amazon and that requires the e-Reader being sent off to Amazon. When it comes to storage capabilities the Kindle has integrated storage of 4 Gigabytes and can hold up to about 3,500 books and documents while the Nook has 2 gigabytes of integrated storage and can hold only about 1,500 books. The strange turn of events in the Kindle v Nook, the Nook has an expansion slot for a micro SD, while the Kindle does not.
The Nook’s color screen and WI-Fi connection tends to drain the battery quicker than the Kindles black and white screen. The kindle screen is also easy to read in direct sunlight better than the nook.
Open Source and Proprietary Reading
Kindle uses a proprietary format for its books making it necessary to buy your books from Amazon for direct download. To download non-proprietary books it will be necessary to convert those books to a download format. The Nook uses an industry standard e-pub format allowing the reader to take advantage of free market benefits such as competitive pricing; no cost offers and downloads from your local public library. Comparing the number of eBooks available, Amazon currently has less than a million titles available for the Kindle while Barnes and Noble has more than 2 million available for the Nook. The Kindle has the ability to down load magazines, newspaper and blogs while the Nook can only handle magazines and newspapers. In the kindle v nook comparison they both offer some free books for download and are adding more frequently.
The Nook uses Lend Me technology that allows the reader to lend an eBook to a friend for up to 14 days while the Kindle does have that feature. The Nook also allows the reader to browse a book when the user is in the store.
Back up that e-Book
When e Books are purchased for the Kindle and Nook, Amazon and Barnes and Noble both back up your purchases. In the event you lose your e-book Reader or it suffers a major catastrophe rendering it useless, your e Books are available for download. With this feature there is no worry about losing your purchases.
Kindle V Nook : Text to Speech Capabilities
The Kindle has text to speech capabilities using Read to Me technology while the Nook does not. What this means is the kindle will actually read to you in a pleasant voice, a cool feature! Kindle can read books, blogs and newspapers out loud making it the perfect device for the person with vision challenges and those who like to multi-task.
In the Kindle v Nook competition, the Kindle has been downsized in dimension and weight making it a more compact device than its counterpart. The Kindle is slightly smaller than the Nook in dimension and a few ounces lighter. As far as size and design is concerned, both devices are very similar. The size and weight will probably change as technology advances and becomes more sophisticated.
In conclusion of the kindle v nook comparison I personally recommended the kindle due to its popularity and user reviews. I bought my wife a kindle over a year ago and she loves it she said it was the best gift she ever received from me. It has been problem free and now she no longer has to buy paper back books which i really like. If you are looking for a color option then the nook is for you as kindle currently does not offer a color option.
